Hazel's story

E-mail

Our kids wouldn't listen to us. We tried to get them to pay attention to us. My husband and I would tell our five year old son to go to bed but he wouldn't. Our three year old daughter was waking up many, many times during the night so we weren't sleeping well either. My counsellor told me about Open Home Foundation and so I phoned them for help. We had a social worker for a while and then she told us about the mentoring programme.

I felt a bit scared about having a mentor but she told us they would be like a mum and a dad. I knew that if we were going to get our children sorted out we needed help to get on top of the problem.

So, we met our mentors and they came to our home to discuss some solutions for our situation. They are very kind, loving, understanding and willing to help us try to find ways to help us as a family. If things don't work out they help us during our discussions. We can rely on them. Our kids get on well with them and they are like grandparents to them. Our son has improved a lot. We love having them as mentors.

We recommend having a mentor. We can talk things through with them. They are there when we need advice or help.
